Sojourners' Posada is the sort of gem adventurers in Mundo Maya and the Yucatan are seeking. On the rooftop of a home in Barrio Santiago, the historic Centro of Merida, Spanish developed colonial capital of Mundo Maya, the ancient Maya world of the Yucatan, a fully furnished penthouse suite welcomes adventuresome guests.
Weary travelers generally seek active relaxation like that offered by the Maya-inspired pool, the gardens of indigenous plants and a sequin-studded patio whose center is a round cement table with benches on which to sit and drink and discuss the discoveries of the day. At the other side of the pool, stairs climb up to the red roof deck where East-West breezes cool the evening air while chairs rock and guests talk, sipping cool drinks from the little kitchen behind the Posada's back door.
The kitchen is fitted out with everything but a stove. A two burner hotplate, microwave, coffeemaker, toaster, blender, fridge and cookware, servers, flatware, tableware and an array of cups and glasses and things to drink are all at hand. A big refrigerator outside the front door reassures guests of plenty of cold beer and soft drinks.
The multi-use breakfast bar of red polished concrete has adjustable stools with footrests and strong back support. Across from the bar is the kitchen sink with a polished red counter. It's stocked with what you need to do dishes, a drainer and towel rack. Underneath are the usual detergents, paper towels and trash can.
If your enthusiasmfor energetic tale-telling is fading, big comfortable chairs with hassocks are in front of the satellite television connecting with the outside world . Overhead there's a fan, and on the wall a 12000 BTU mini-split air conditioner. Sometimes, most refreshing of all are the breezes coming through the open balcony door where you can sit and watch the neighborhood go about its evening business.
To catch up with friends at home or blog about your day's adventures, there's Wi-Fi and high speed internet connections. Laptops fit neatly on the breakfast bar which also ensure that a cold drink is at hand.
Your evening activities are generally accompanied by background music coming from the Zocalo (Grand City Square), Parque Santiago or various other parks. And if it's a Saint's Day or even if it isn't, every so often a massive firecracker will lift you from your seat and you're reminded to be celebratory.
Depending on your relationship or decisions made earlier, the beds will already be made either as a king-size or two individual ones. If you haven't done it yet, hang your clothes in the cedar closet meeant to protect against mold and other problems.
